ABCs of Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is usually very good for your baby’s health. It can also be good for your health. There is a lot of information about breastfeeding, but with ABC, these three tips are easy to remember:

  1. Awareness. Whenever your baby seems hungry, give her the opportunity to breastfeed. Watch for feeding cues.
  2. Be patient. Your infant probably needs to nurse for 10-20 minutes on each breast.
  3. Comfort. Make yourself and your baby comfortable while you breastfeed, using support with pillows and putting your feet up.

Breastfeeding may not be the best choice for every family. Consider bottle feeding if you are not producing enough milk or to decrease your stress level. Bottle feeding with formula – or a combination of breastfeeding and formula – may be what is right for you and your family.
