You may feel that you are changing diapers all the time! Healthy newborns often need 10 or more diaper changes daily.
Diaper changing tips:
- Change your baby’s diaper as soon as the diaper is wet or soiled. This will prevent diaper rash.
- Change your baby’s diaper in the middle of the night to prevent sleeping in a soiled or wet diaper all night.
What to expect at different ages:
- From birth to 1 month, your baby is likely to have 6+ wet diapers and 3-4 bowel movements, resulting in 10+ diaper changes per day.
- At 1 month and older, your baby is likely to have 4-6+ wet diapers and less than 3-4 bowel movements, resulting in 8-10 diaper changes per day.
When babies don’t soil or wet their diapers often, they may be dehydrated or constipated. Talk with your healthcare provider.
