Playground Safety

Outdoor activities are fun! They also benefit your child’s physical, mental, and social health. The connection to nature is really important. In towns and cities, one of the best places to play is the playground.

Tips to help your children stay safe while enjoying playgrounds:

  1. Provide adult supervision and support, so children learn how to use playground equipment and receive care if they get hurt.
  2. Grass surfaces are ideal for kids. Many playgrounds use other materials like rocks, mulch, or repurposed rubber from tires. Concrete and asphalt are less safe.
  3. Scan playground surfaces for dangerous materials such as broken glass, metal, and nails.
  4. Look for signs that the playground is designed and maintained well for your child.
